Treat Yourself!

Midterms are coming up and as a fellow college student, I know that everyone is stressing. How? The lines at Starbucks are infinitely longer, the library is like a social hall, and everyone has a perpetual look of stress on their face!

Here are some DIY's that you can use in order to help slough off some some of the stress with ingredients that you can easily find in your kitchen!

Chamomile Oatmeal Face Mask
(recipe from Leah Bergman of Freutcake)

Soothing chamomile tea is combined with naturally exfoliating oats and purifying honey in order to create a mask that will not only make your skin feel great, but make you feel better.

Ingredients:

"Strongly brewed chamomile tea (2 Tbs-1/4 cup)
1/2 cup old fashioned oats (pulsed a few times in food processor)
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp white sugar (optional)
Brew a cup of chamomile tea. In a small bowl mix oats, baking soda and honey. Start out by adding only 2 Tbsp of tea to oat mixture and set aside 5 minutes. If mixture is too dry, add a small amount of tea at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add 2 Tbsp of white sugar (optional) and mix to combine. Mask will be chunky. Apply to washed, damp face and let sit 5 minutes. Rinse and apply moisturizer."

Lavender-Grapeseed Oil Sea Salt Body Scrub

This sea salt scrub will scrub away at dry flaky skin and any impurities. The lavender scent is totally calming and the grapeseed oil is moisturizing. Say goodbye to any trouble skin and hello to a smooth body!

Ingredients:
"1 cup sea salt2-3 sprigs dried lavender2-6 drops lavender essential oil1 cup grapeseed oil

Remove the lavender buds from the sprigs just like you would with herbs like thyme and rosemary, then boost the calming aroma by adding drops of lavender essential oil to your sea salt scrub. Pour in the grapeseed oil and gently mix to combine."

Mint Milk Bath
(recipe from Julie Blanner)

Finally, a bath is paramount in relaxation. Light some candles, pour a glass of wine, and crack open a good book. Sitting in a milk bath will moisturize your skin, and the mint will help clear your mind and rid yourself of anxiety. Not to mention, it also smells great!

Ingredients:

"1 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
10 drops of spearmint essential oil (or any other essential oil of your liking)

Mix dry ingredients together and add essential oil to your taste, keeping in mind that the scent will be diluted in a bath, and stir well. Add the mixture to a jar and let sit for at least 24 hours."

DIY's are seriously fun and even better that you get to reap the rewards at the end. Don't let yourself get too overwhelmed from stress and know that it is definitely okay to take a moment to breathe and treat yourself!
