H&M and World Recycle Week

Did you know that on average 13 millions tons of textiles are thrown away every year? Out of those 13 million tons only 2 million tons are recovered for reuse or recycle(INCREDIBLE right?). In order to be more sustainable many fast fashion companies, such as H&M have introduced initiatives to recycle more clothing. In 2013, H&M launched its Garment Collecting initiative, which involves consumers taking their unwanted clothes to H&M stores to get recycled. Since 2013 they have helped recycle 25,000 tons of clothing by this initiative.

In order to make more people aware of World Recycle Week (April 18-24) and to help collect many unwanted clothes, H&M has teamed up with M.I.A and several other influencers in the fashion and music industry that devote themselves to the reducing waste of the planets resources. During Recycle Week they plan to collect over 1,000 tons of garments to recycle. In order to encourage consumers to recycle their clothes they collaborated with M.I.A and created a short 3 minute music video. In this video they highlight the environmental impact of clothes going to landfills around the world. Check out the video link at the bottom of the post!

P.S. If an awesome music video isn't enough of an incentive to recycle your clothes, H&M will give any shopper 30% off of an entire purchase when you bring in any old clothing into the store and they will recycle your clothes for you!
