Every year the Cal Poly Career Center holds various events in order to help students connect with alumni and business professionals to aid in transitioning into the working world. This past Friday, the Career Success Conference:"Create Your Adventure" and Clothes Closet fashion show were held in the BSC Ursa Major on campus and it was a total success! The Conference was filled with excited students and eager alumni ready help students gain inspiration and motivation to move their career goals forward. The event was sponsored by the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center and Bronco LEAD. The event's keynote speaker and special guest was Cal Poly Pomona Alumnus Phillip Kauffman, Creative Director of Monster Energy. He shared his experience of how he advanced from being a college graduate to a highly rewarding corporate position with an internationally successful company. In addition to the keynote speaker, there was a panel of Cal Poly Alumni that came from The City of Diamond Bar, Crepes Bonaparte, Disney, Innovation Brew Works, and Northrop Grumman. These speakers shared their stories and tips on how to reach success.
This year Clothes Closet was welcomed under the ApparelScape umbrella, with AMM students consulting this venue to help it reach its fullest potential. Along with the main event, Clothes Closet hosted a "Dress for Success" fashion show, to illustrate to students how to sharpen their professional image. The Clothes Closet team selected fashion forward and professional outfits for student models to walk down the runway. Although it was a short fashion show, it demonstrated to students that it is possible to dress fashionably in professional clothing and have fun while doing it!
Transiting from student to professional can be daunting at times, but with the right inspiration and guidance, success is always attainable. If you are ever in need of professional clothing for a job interview or work, stop by Clothes Closet Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:45pm. You can select up to four items every quarter for free and if you would like to help out, donations are always welcomed!
