Vintage and secondhand clothing has been all the rage in recent years, and platforms such as Poshmark, Thred Up, and Depop have made it easy for just about anyone to create, manage, and sell their vintage finds and consignment  merchandise on their own profile.

Courtney Davila, a sophomore at Cal Poly Pomona in the Apparel Merchandising and Management program, is someone who's gained an impressive following of her own selling her own thrifted and vintage finds through her Depop profile, Fully Thrifted Life.

"I've always loved thrifting since middle school, and after accumulating so much, it's nice to have an avenue such as Depop to sell my vintage clothing."

After realizing her fascination with just about everything vintage, her passion led her to creating her very own Depop shop account in high school. Her pieces are more recognizable by their uniqueness and vintage style, rather than their brand names. She admits that her favorite and most exciting finds tend to be those from years prior to the 80's, due to their increased rarity. Adding to her interest in thrifting, she had also once worked at the Savers Secondhand Clothing store located in Yorba Linda, CA.

We asked what her recent favorite piece she's acquired, and immediately she was drawn to a pair of deadstock vintage 1970's jeans with, in her words, all the "railroad train conductor vibes" (which also happen to still be available on her site!).

We'll provide her Depop and Instagram profile information below.

So, how exactly does Courtney Davila find all of her unique vintage pieces?

"I'm a regular at Pomona's Veteran's Thrift Store and also like to frequent garage and estate sales with cash at hand, because most people don't even know their pieces are valuable vintage items most of the time!"

Additionally, Davila uses her Instagram to promote her shop, @fullythiftedlife, sharing her most recent sourced merchandise. Her boyfriend also participates in selling vintage clothing using IG, though Davila adds that his pieces are focused on 80s and 90s men's streetwear and tend to include more recognizable brand names, such a Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, etc., with his most recent find including a vintage Versace windbreaker (check it out on his IG, @timetunnelvintage).

Davila is also an active E-board member in the Fashion Society club at Cal Poly, serving as a multi-faceted contributor towards everything graphic design, marketing, and social media, and had also helped with the production of the latest Hacienda Fashion Show in April

"Being a part of the Fashion Society was definitely one of the best decisions of college!"

We couldn't help but wonder - does Davila recognize the story of Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal as a relatable one to her own activity in selling vintage clothing? She admits she had felt a fondness for her story as well as a liking towards the recently aired Netflix Show, Girl Boss. However, with this admiration, she mentioned her sadness towards the downfall of the iconic brand - though Davila added that Nasty Gal may have played a major role in the revival and popularity in thrifting and vintage clothing.

Fully Thrifted Life is all about providing affordable prices (usually $10-$30) for unique vintage pieces, and Davila strongly believes in her future successes with her Depop shop. As an experienced user, Davila also hopes to become a University Ambassador for the company, with the chance to spread the word around the CPP campus about everything Depop.

Davila adds, "what makes Depop different from the other secondhand and vintage clothing platforms, is that on Depop, you have to be unique to stand out".

In addition to selling her merchandise through her Depop account and Instagram, Davila mentioned her recent participation in selling consignment clothing through the AMM department's Building 45 Boutique (located in Building 45 on the CPP campus). Other places include the Orange Flea Market as well as the CPP Honky Tonk event and Pop-Up events throughout campus.

Davila hopes to pursue her interest in product and photoshoot styling, digital marketing, and clearly possesses an entrepreneurial spirit that she admits may even lead to her own business someday. Through her experience in Fashion Society and in building her Fully Thrifted Life shop on Depop and IG, there's no doubt that Davila will succeed with whatever future endeavors she finds herself involved with!
